 # Feb 2026 Lightmare call for a solution: A simple bulb change

As an example to the world, we ask the UK government to mandate by September 2026
that all vehicles should be recalled and fitted with 2700k warm white LED headlamp bulbs (as made by Osram and Philips).
DRL should be modified to 2,700k variable intensity 400cd when dull, 1200cd in full sun.
Older vehicles with more complex HID-Xenon lights should have until 2027 to be converted.
The manufacturers dominated UNECE WP29 when the regulations were being set, so they should stand the cost.

The UK Transport Minister Heidi Alexander has published a Road Safety Strategy Jan 2026, we say it is too little, too late. The 2025 TRL report Glare from Vehicle Lighting on UK Roads depicts vehicles breaking the law, the government has a duty of care to protect UK citizens from danger
and should act immediately to uphold the law.
